Wendell Murray

March 6, 1943 — August 10, 2024

On Saturday, August 10, 2024, at his home in Georgetown, George "Wendell" Murray passed away peacefully sitting in his favourite chair while watching the Olympics. He had just returned from a 3-week vacation at his cottage in PEI. Wendell was born and raised by his parents Jenny & Earl Murray in Graham's Road, PEI.

Wendell will be forever missed by his wife Beth, daughter Pam and her husband Paul, daughter-in-law Susan and her partner Neil, and grandchildren Olivia, Owen, Ben and Sarah. He will also be missed by his brother Bruce (Yvonne), sister Joyce (Eric), brothers-in-law David (Jackie), Robert (Nancy), Stuart (Anna Marie) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wendell was predeceased by his beloved son Scott, brother Ross, and sister-in-law Joan.

Wendell attended Grahams Road School and Kensington high school before moving to Toronto where he attended Devry Institute before beginning his work career. He spent the majority of his career in the electrical utility industry, working for Truck Engineering, Northern, and then Altec Industries. His strong work ethic, gentle demeanor and fair-mindedness made him highly thought of by his co-workers and customers.

After his retirement in 2006, Wendell filled his leisure time playing golf and curling. He loved spending his entire summer at the family cottage in his beloved PEI, as well as spending time away in the winter months with family and friends in Florida. Wendell always held particularly fond memories of travelling to Australia with special cousins Winne and Gord. During Scott’s illness, Wendell lovingly transported Scott anywhere he needed to go (including many a trip to Costco!), and he devoted countless hours at the hockey rink with his grandson Ben. Wendell was a homebody at heart and was probably at his happiest working in his yard on Norton Crescent, chatting with the neighbours as they walked by, or sitting in the basement watching a Maple Leafs game.

Family and friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Saturday, September 7th from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.. A service will follow at 1:00 pm with Reverend Paul Ivany presiding. Reception to follow in the Trafalgar room at Jones Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society of Canada ( https://als.ca/ ) or the Georgetown Bread Basket ( https://georgetownbreadbasket.ca/ )

Wendell will be fondly remembered for his outgoing personality. He loved spending time with his family and friends and would do anything for anyone. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. “There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you go you will always be in our hearts”. Gandhi
