Trudy Poot
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, May 11, 2026 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at the age of 81.
Predeceased by the late Richard Poot, Trudy was the cherished mother of Rick Poot (Cindy Deakin), Leona Chiovitti (Ron Dunkerley), Cherie Rauwerda (Andy), and Dwayne Poot (Carol). Proud and loving Oma of Elizabeth (Kevin), Nick (Julia), Nicole (Joel), Eric, and Jackson, and treasured Great-Oma to Isaac.
Trudy was the beloved daughter of the late Sijtze and Geertje Drijfhout and was one of eleven children. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her many relatives from coast to coast across Canada and around the world, as well as by her many friends at Holland Christian Homes.
A true social butterfly, Trudy loved getting together for coffee dates and lunches with “The Girls.” She enjoyed going out for meals, especially to Mandarin Restaurant where she never passed up the sushi buffet. She loved puzzles, cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and family. Family gatherings were always her priority, and many treasured memories were made rolling croquettes together and sharing laughter around the table.
Trudy will be remembered for her caring heart, her stubborn determination, and her gentle nature as a peacemaker — always trying to see both sides and keep harmony among those she loved. She never wanted to inconvenience anyone and always put others before herself.
Visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place. A Memorial Service will be held at Georgetown Christian Reformed Church on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Those unable to attend in person may livestream the service (link to follow shortly)
