Obituary

TREVOR SCOTT RAYMOND

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Trevor S. Raymond; husband to Jan; father to Corin and Douglas (wife Mayuka); brother to Beth Ken’ta:res Queau (husband Chuck); grandfather to Ezra and Ewan; uncle to Matt and Jennifer, Thomas, and Edward. Trevor was predeceased by his wives Wendy Hillier, 1972; and Karina Liinamaa, 1979.

Trevor enjoyed a varied teaching career, in schools from Churchill, MB, to Sioux Lookout, ON; and Red Lake, where he served as Head of History at the Red Lake District High School. Many years later, he closed out his career by serving eight years as Teacher Librarian at Mayfield Secondary School.

His post-high school education began at Brandon College in Manitoba, and continued with his earning his B.A. at Carleton, and his M.A. at England’s London School of Economics.

A self-professed “Air Force Brat,” Trevor grew up on RCAF-bases from Halifax to Victoria; wherever and for how-long his father, Squadron Leader Douglas Raymond, was stationed.

In his retirement, Trevor relished his nearly-lifelong membership with The Bootmakers of Toronto – one of several Sherlockian-societies to which he belonged, and contributed; Trevor fell in love with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s world-famous Sleuth as a boy, and took subsequent delight in the Great Detective's exploits all his life.

Trevor remained locally active with Heritage Halton Hills and the Friends of the Library.

Trevor was "a rumpled old puttering, stay-at-home academic."

He spent his final years in his favourite reading chair, from which he could watch the birds and see the trees.

He left us when the lilacs were in bloom.

We think Trevor would’ve been tickled to know that Friday, May 22, 2026, the day he died at home in the company of his wife Jan, was not only Conan Doyle’s birthday: it was also the official, International, Sherlock Holmes Day.

In lieu of a funeral service, there will be a private graveside-ceremony for family at a later date.
