Martin (Marttinen), Timo Anje – Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the Guelph General Hospital, in his 92nd year. He is now asleep, until the resurrection morning, at the second coming of his dear Lord and Saviour. Timo was born in Finland, the second-youngest sibling of 8 children. The Reformation came to Finland when my father was less than 5 years old. At that young age, he learned about salvation and decided to become a Christian; he never looked back. He was baptized at the age of 15. At the age of 19, he immigrated to Canada. He met Anneli Karhinen, his wife, in Canada. They married and raised their children on a farm in Streetsville, Ontario. A few years after arriving in Canada he purchased an industrial patternmaking business, which he owned until he retired in his late 70’s. After his retirement, he bought a home in the country and spent his retirement years gardening, making maple syrup, feeding his backyard birds and squirrels, and cutting trees and chopping wood for the winter. He spent many hours in the study of the word of God. His was a life of constant activity.
As well as being a family man and a businessman, the focus of his life was dedicated to serving the Lord. He spent his time building up the church in Canada and other parts of the world, serving as a leader in many different capacities, preaching and giving Bible studies, bringing many others to the light of the Gospel. He made many lasting friendships through his missionary work. Throughout his life he supported the work of God through his time and money, something which continued until the day of his passing.
We remember Timo, beloved father of Helen Marttinen (the late John Formosa), Wendy Eaton (Jerry), Lynne Marttinen (Jorg Schulz), and the late Kenneth Marttinen. Loving grandfather to Richard Eaton (Emma) and Sharon Eaton, and Alexandria Schulz. Dear brother of Leila McTavish and half-sister Nina Sävilahti, and preceded in death by 6 siblings and one half-brother. Timo will be dearly remembered by his extended family members and his worldwide Church community.
A Funeral to honour Timo’s life will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the International Missionary Society SDA Church Reform Movement, 3897 Bloor St. W, Toronto, at 3:00 p.m. To make a charitable contribution to the church, or to send expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.jonesfuneralhome.co
