Thomas Foster Hawkins, 67, of Georgetown, ON, passed from this life to the next on December 16, 2023, in Georgetown.
Tom is survived by his brother, Robert Hawkins (Susan), his niece, Jennifer Balmain (Clint), and his nephew, Jim Hawkins (Courtney). He is preceded in death by his parents, William “Jack” Hawkins and Jean (Calder) Hawkins.
Tom was born at the Port Arthur General Hospital in Port Arthur, Ontario, a city that was to become Thunder Bay a few years later. He completed a B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering at the University of Waterloo and an M.B.A. at McMaster University. While in university, Tom purchased a blue 1976 Triumph TR6, a vehicle he loved and drove his whole life, at least when it would run! Tom’s career included positions with Fisher Controls, Lakeside Process Controls, Lakeside Gas Services, and as a private consultant. Tom officially retired in 2019 with plans to watch his beloved college football and do some traveling.
Tom lived his personal life quietly, content with spending time alone with his books and comfortable with his own company. He was not one to seek the spotlight. After battling cancer for several years, Tom left this life for the next peacefully and without fanfare. We will miss his intelligence, humor, and humility.
A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held at Jones Funeral Home on Sunday, January 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Craig McCallum officiating. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., prior to the Celebration, with a reception to follow in the Trafalgar room.
Memorial donations may be made to the Terry Fox Foundation, terryfox.org, 8960 University High Street, Suite 150, Burnaby, British Columbia V5A 4Y6
