Shirley Russell

On May 17 2024, Shirley Russell peacefully passed away at the age of 93 in Georgetown Ontario. Shirley grew up in Toronto on Brock Ave with her mother Pearl and brother Richard where she made life long friends with her neighbours. She loved to dance and would always spend time at the Sea Breeze, where she met her late husband Don Russell. Not long after getting married, Shirley had two daughters Cathy and Wendy. She enjoyed taking them to swimming lessons and dance, watching their homemade fashion shows and playing with them in the backyard pool. Shirley had a successful career as Credit Manager at Lansing Buildall and would spend her spare time going door to door collecting for various charities. She was a great baker and would always bring baked goodies for many Church functions. Shirley had many hobbies over the years: gardening, aquafit, puzzles, sewing, playing cards with friends and she loved to read. Her real joy was spending time with her grandchildren - Alicia, Brad, Ryan and Michael. Togetherness activities included baking, taking them on day trips, watching them put on plays and attending sports activities. Her latest love was her great granddaughter Bowie. She found great happiness in sharing with her old nursery rhymes, singing songs, reading her books and hearing her call her GG. Shirley was the glue that held the family together by orchestrating family gatherings and in later years attending each and everyone possible.

Shirley leaves behind her daughters Cathy Vecchione (D. Rocco) & Wendy Torres (Ricky), Brother Richard Brown (D. Joan). Grandchildren Alicia Wood (Jordan), Brad Torres (Candice), Ryan Torres, Michael Vecchione and Great Granddaughter Bowie. Along with extended family and friends.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Jones Funeral Home from 2-4. If you would like to make a donation in Shirley’s honour, please donate to Sick Kids Hospital.
