Lavers (née Power), Shirley Cecelia – On Dec. 1st, 2025, at Bennett Centre Long Term Care in Georgetown, now at peace at 88 years of age. Beloved wife of Ed and cherished mother of Karen Keith (David) and Cameron. Loving grandma of Amanda, Mitchell, Joseph and Georgia and cherished sister of Bill, Marcella, Joan, Nadine & Linda. Shirley was predeceased by her son Michael and her brother Patrick Power.
Shirley was born in Linwood, Nova Scotia and raised in her parents’ home on beautiful Linwood Harbour. She moved to Ontario at the age of 18 and worked as a bank teller. Shirley loved dancing, which is how she met her husband-to-be Ed, to whom she was married for the next 67 years. They began their life together in their first home in York (Toronto), eventually moving to Georgetown in 1972.
Shirley was a natural beauty, both on the inside and out. She was a sweet and caring mother to all of her children and grandchildren, and especially so of her son Michael, who she was committed to providing the best quality of life possible. Shirley also worked for the Red Cross as a volunteer, providing care and support to elderly residents of Georgetown. She was known for her love of camping, including with her grandchildren in their younger years. She was a beautiful quilter, enjoyed ceramics, gardening, music, dancing and writing. She was also an avid reader, fond of historical literature in particular and was a wealth of knowledge when it came to family history. Shirley was passionate about her Nova Scotia heritage and her Irish ancestry. She inspired an interest in the same for many of her immediate and extended family.
She was deeply loved by all her family and will be missed in many ways.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the staff and caregivers at Bennett Centre. The care and compassion extended to Shirley during her entire stay at Bennett was very reassuring and heart-warming for Shirley's entire family, and especially so during her final days. We know she was a much-loved resident of Bennett and that she will be missed by many.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a future date.
In honour of Shirley, donations to Bennett Centre Long Term Care Home are appreciated.
