Rupert Mcconnell

McConnell, Rupert Ross (Bert) 1916 - 2014- Bert passed away peacefully with family at his side on October 8th, 2014 in his 99th year. He was the loving husband of late Grace Isabel Burt for 60 years, and the devoted father of son Clifford Ross and his wife Nora, and daughter Heather Mae and husband Mike Boyle. He was the proud and cherished Poppa of Chelsey Lynn Cartwright. Bert was the beloved son of the late Pearl Mae Curl and Charles Ross MacConnell. The family will receive friends at J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home 11582 Trafalgar Road Georgetown for visitation on Friday, October 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, October 11th at 11:00 a.m. and will be conducted by the Rev. Peter Barrow. Interment in the family plot will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Georgetown, and a celebration of his life will follow at the Georgetown Legion, Branch #120 at 1:00 p.m. Remembrances in Bert's memory to the Epilepsy Ontario foundation are gratefully appreciated by the family. In World War II, Bert became the acting Captain and Lieutenant of the Platoon for the Anti Tank 6th Pounders in the Royal Regiment of Canada. He served in combat and was wounded on August 6th, 1944 in Normandy, France. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star and the King's Medals for his service. He returned from service and became an entrepreneurial salesperson with the Retail Merchant's Association and travelled extensively in Canada selling various consumer and home renovation products, and worked for King City Paving during the final years of his career. Bert was an avid golfer and fan in later years, an accomplished cook and took pride in his cars, his appearance and he loved his family dearly. Above all, Bert had a fabulous sense of humour and brought laughter, comfort and kindness to everyone he met. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who he touched with his amazing spirit and kind generosity.
