Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the Georgetown Hospital in his 85th year.
Roy is the beloved husband of Lenore (nee Dobson) for 66 years, the loving father of Cliff (Debbie), Julie (Andy), Lynn (Steve) and Grant (Debbie), cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren, and great-grandfather of 7, dear brother of Ralph (Glenda) and the late Lloyd (Ella, sister-in-law Mary).
When Roy was four years old, his father ran over him with a sickle mower. However, the Lord was not ready for him yet.
When Roy was 20, his brother Lloyd ran over him with the farm truck. However, the Lord was not ready for him yet.
When Roy was 23, he was driving an oil truck delivering fuel oil to houses and rolled the truck. However, the Lord was not ready for him yet.
When Roy was 25, he was baling hay on a hill; the tractor and baling equipment rolled into a tangled mess. However, the Lord was not ready for him yet.
When Roy was 50, he jumped off the dock at the Apple Factory slipped and hit his head, passed out for 30 minutes. However, the Lord was not ready for him yet.
When Roy was 84, he fell in the kitchen cutting his head in multiple spots and complications caused a multiple month hospital stay. However, the Lord was not ready for him yet.
Wednesday, April 11 th , when Roy and the Lord were ready, and with comfort and care, He reached down and gently and quietly picked Roy up in his arms.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Fredric Grainger, Dr. Brian Best and Dr. Paul Joza who gave Roy excellent care over many years and the Mountainview Residence nurses and staff for the excellent care and compassion.
The Laidlaw family will receive friends and family to celebrate Roy's life at J.S. Jones and Sons Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown on Sunday, April 15th from 2-4 and 7-9. A private family burial at Hillcrest Cemetery Monday morning followed by a service and reception at Jones starting at 2 PM.
