Rodrick James Bennett
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Rodrick James Bennett announce his passing on Sunday, February 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Bethell Hospice.
Rodrick was born on April 1, 1947, in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, to the late George and Minnie (Clarke) Bennett.
Rodrick shared 55 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Theresa (MacLean). Together, they spent 35 years building a beautiful life in Georgetown, Ontario. They were inseparable, right to the very end.
Known as “Poppy” and “The Rod Man”, Rod was a retired bricklayer of 40 years who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—time spent in the garden, playing guitar, long walks, and faithfully protecting his daily meditation practice. One ritual he never missed was purchasing his weekly lotto tickets and settling in to watch the “Wheel” (Wheel of Fortune).
Poppy was easily known as the life of the party, The Rod Man loved nothing more than a good kitchen dance party.
Poppy found his greatest joy in being with his grandchildren. He was fortunate to care for all three during their early years, forming a special and loving bond with each of them—Alexia (Lexi), Hunter, and Brooklyn.
He also had a special place in his heart for his four-legged “grandkids”: Noah, Max, Mia, Mable, Otis, and Chester.
Rodrick is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; his daughters, Jo-Ann (Russel) McKinnon and Jennifer (Jeff) Theriault; and his cherished grandchildren, Alexia, Hunter, and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his brother Andy; his sisters Sandra and Donna; his sisters-in-law Claire, Annette and Darlene; and many nieces and nephews.
Rod was predeceased by his parents, George and Minnie Bennett; his brothers Frank, Kenny, Roy, and Doug; and his sisters Joan, Mary, Linda, Ethel, and Irene.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and volunteers at Bethell Hospice in Inglewood for their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care during The Rod Man’s final days.
