Roberta Yuricek

November 18, 1932 — May 12, 2021

With broken hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, ROBERTA YURICEK (BOéICA JURIČEK), on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in Orangeville, Ontario. Born in the beautiful village of Volavje in Croatia on Nov. 18, 1932 to her loving parents Dragica and Petar Cvetić, sister to the late Ljerka Pinturić, cherished wife of the late Robert Yuricek (Božidar Juriček predeceased 2003), much loved mother to Milica Mandekić and Carol Stanko-Vuković, and mother-in-law to Milan Mandekić (predeceased 2006) and Zdenko Stanko-Vuković, as well as beloved grandmother to Carol Anne and husband Marko Å korvaga, and precious great-grandmother to Noa and Dario. Our mother had a heart of gold and was loved by all who knew her. She was baker extraordinaire, specializing in Croatian strudel and other delicacies. She was a long time choir member first in Volavje, and then the Croatian churches in both Toronto and Mississauga for over 50 years in Canada. She was also a past President of the Mississauga Croatian Martyrs Women's Committee. She was one of the original women who started the first Croatian folklore group in Toronto, a tradition she passed on all the way to her great-grandchildren. She was our queen, our matriarch and our pillar of strength.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nadarajah and the ICU nurses at Headwaters Healthcare Center, Sarah, Claudia and Sandra for their compassionate support. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Roberta Yuricek (Božica Juriček), as per her wishes, you may donate to either the church in Volavje, "Majka Bozja Volavska" Croatia and/or the Mississauga Croatian Martyrs church.
