Pries, Robert "Wayne" Ludwig- December 4, 1937 - January 18, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Wayne Pries, beloved husband of 54 years to Judy, proud father to Kimberley, Jacqueline (Jay Anderson) and Mark (Diane); honoured grandfather to Brooklyn, Shevaun and Chase. Predeceased by his parents Egmont and Madeline, dear brother to Merle (late Fred Lawrence), Fran (late John Sandfort), Elaine (late Carl Peterson) and Gail (Keith Bennett). Cherished brother-in-law to Pat (Bill Patterson), late Bernice (Glen Gibbs), Maureen (Greg Cameron), late Jack (Joyce), Phillip and late Michael (Jane). He was also a proud uncle to many nephews and nieces. Wayne spent over 30 years dedicated to the game of hockey, as a devoted hockey father; then volunteer for the Georgetown Hockey Support Group (1978+); served as President of the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association (1985 - 1990); Ontario Minor Hockey Association OMHA (1992 to present); elected President of the OMHA (2010 - 2011); and first chairman of Halton Hurricane "AAA" hockey program. As well, in 2001 Wayne was honoured with the prestigious Halton Hills Hockey Heritage Award and was elected to the Halton Hills Hall of Fame in 2014. Wayne was a consummate craftsman carpenter, who built Judy and his first home, constantly involved in home improvements and was the chief builder for Pop's Paradise, the family cottage. He began his craftsman career at age 16 when he began working for McNally Construction, then contractor for Woodway Manufacturing and ultimately moved the Town of Halton Hills and then the City Of Brampton as Building Inspector. Wayne was a 14 year cancer survivor who battled hard to achieve a life of normalcy and was successful until the summer of 2014. A mentor, an advocate for under privileged young hockey players, and one of the hardest working man we know. He will be sadly missed. The family will receive friends and family at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown (905) 877-3631 on Wednesday, January 21st from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held in the chapel on Thursday, January 22nd 2015 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association or the Minor Hockey Foundation Ontario (Financial Relief Program).
