Robert Forrest McMurray (1935 - 2014)
Robert (Bob) passed away suddenly but peacefully at home in Georgetown, Ontario on Monday August 11, 2014. Bob is survived by his wife Carol (Kerr), sons Mike (Letitia), Chris (Jennifer) and Jon (Allison); Sister Joan Knox and Grandchildren Hannah, Carys, Dylan, Jack, Grace and Quinn. Born and raised in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Bob graduated with a degree in physical education from the University of New Brunswick and spent a career educating and entertaining students and colleagues in the Peel Board of Education, retiring as a Principal. A lifelong athlete, Bob was a star on the basketball court and later turned his attention to coaching the sport he loved most. Later in life, Bob became an avid squash player and a well-known member of the Georgetown Racquet Club. Upon retirement, Bob enjoyed a second career as a tour guide, leading groups of intrepid travelers to the four corners of the globe. This confirmed his love of travel, and he and Carol spent the following years making many wonderful memories. Summers were spent at the cottage in Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia with his extended family. 'Uncle Bob' was a famous summer resident of the historic town, making friends up and down the river and bringing a smile to everyone he met. 'Bigsey' lived a wonderful and very full life. He had a generous spirit and a ready smile. We will all miss him dearly and the impact he had on our lives, but we know he is stirring it up with friends in the great beyond. Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, north of Maple Ave., Georgetown, (905) 877-3631 on Friday from 6-9 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday August 16, 2014 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills or Georgetown Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
