Robert James
McKnight
April 11, 2026
Robert “Rob” McKnight passed away suddenly, but peacefully, in his sleep. Rob leaves behind his wife Janice (Matheson) of 32 years, and his four beautiful sons, Cameron, Matthew (Danielle), Braydon and Owen, and two loving Golden Retrievers, Stella and Kiki. In his 65th year, his life was cut way to short.
Rob was born in Toronto to Jim and Margaret McKnight. He had two brothers, Steve and Kevin. They moved to Montreal until grade 5, where they returned to Ontario to live in Lorne Park, Mississauga. When Rob and Janice first got married they lived a short time in Mississauga before moving to Georgetown, and then settling in Glen Williams for the past 24 years. For ten years, they had a condo in Florida, which was Rob’s favourite place, until they sold it during Covid, and bought their Muskoka cottage, which became Rob’s new favourite place.
Rob was a leader. He graduated from University of Toronto, and after success in the corporate world, he left it 33 years ago to start Vista Security with his partner, and lifelong friend, Domenic Todaro. They started the business on a handshake, and grew it to a company that is nation wide. They did it on their own, with hard work and integrity. It is a true success story.
Through the years, Rob taught University classes, published in security magazines, welcomed and embraced so many new opportunities.
Rob loved his four sons, and had so many adventures with them. Our circle of six most recently returned from the Milano Olympics. Rob loved to travel, and had seen most of the world, from Russia and Dubai to China and Australia, he saw it all, but his favourite city was London, England. His heart was always in London, and visited there more than 40 times, and loved that he had UK dual citizenship, thanks to his Mom.
Rob loved talking business with Cameron, sports with Matthew, politics with Owen, and economics with Braydon. His goal in life was to leave a legacy for his boys to be proud of him for, and he did.
Rob was also the funny guy, who made people laugh. Although often reserved, when with friends, he was happy and social, and made everyone feel welcome. He always remembered the details that showed people he cared.
His wife Janice will miss him forever. The love, the chaos, the integrity, the energy that he brought to her life. She is thankful that she has left him four beautiful sons that she can watch parts of him live on.
A private family service will be held to honour Rob's life.
