Robert Roy Hunter

Peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Georgetown Hospital, at the age of 84. Bob was predeceased by his wife and the love of his life Diane (2001) and his brother Brian (2010). Loving father of Aaron and his wife Holly and Darrin and his wife Barbara. Proud grandfather of Dallas, Madison, Grayson, Henrique, Marcos and Louisa. He is survived by his brother Ralph and sister Linda.

Bob served the City of Brampton as an Alderman from December 1991 to November 1994 and as a City Councillor from December 1994 to November 2000. A lifelong Brampton resident, Bob was greatly engaged in both civic and community life. He began his career in public service in the local tax assessment office in 1962, later working on county-wide reassessments. He held senior roles in the private sector as a property tax agent and real estate consultant before establishing his own assessment consultancy.

During and after his time on Council, Bob remained committed to public service. He served on the City’s Committee of Adjustment and, in 2003, was appointed to Ontario’s Assessment Review Board. Bob was also an outstanding athlete, playing for the Jr. A Lacrosse Excelsiors and the Seven Ups Jr. Hockey Club. His talent earned him a draft spot with the NHL’s Original Six New York Rangers. He also held Brampton High’s long jump and 100-yard dash records for years.

Bob’s legacy is one of dedication to fair governance, thoughtful leadership and a strong commitment to the Brampton community.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 1:30-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at North Bramalea United Church, 363 Howden Blvd, Brampton. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at North Bramalea United Church at 11 a.m. A reception will follow. Cremation has taken place. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills would be appreciated by the family.
