FLETCHER, Ralph Norman
It is with great sadness that after a lengthy illness, we share news of the passing of our father, Ralph Fletcher, on Wednesday, June 9, 2016 at Kelso Villa Retirement Home, Owen Sound.
Predeceased by his parents Geoffrey Fletcher (2001) & Lilian Fletcher (nee Howell) (2003) and younger brother, Geoffrey Fletcher (2013). Ralph leaves behind his children: Stephen (April) Fletcher, Michelle Fletcher (previously Jones) and Brenda Fletcher (previously Hoddenbagh) as well as his seven grandchildren: Jesse, Kyle and Jake Jones, Elizabeth and Justin Hoddenbagh, and Nicholas and Emma Fletcher.
Dad worked very hard over the course of his short 68 years. Dad's career began at Markham Hydro in 1965. After Dad got married, he requested a transfer to Brampton Hydro. He worked as a Linesman for a few years before he decided to further his Hydro career by adding Electrical Engineering studies. After Brampton Hydro wanted to make serious changes, Dad decided to leave the company. In 1974, Dad opened Fletcher's Family Shoe Store on Main Street in Georgetown. This became a real family store when Dad's parents, wife Lydia, and the three children all started working there. In order to keep serving his customers to the best of his ability, Dad eventually added the Chiropodist accreditation to his name. In 2002, Dad closed Fletcher's Family Shoe Store, soon retired and for the first time in many years, started to relax.
Dad's day didn't end when he finished his days' work or after he had finished his studies for the night. Dad spent many, many hours supporting, coaching and managing Steve at rep hockey; coaching Michelle's soccer teams and encouraging Brenda with her love of figure skating. Dad was also well known in the Georgetown community for his involvement in politics.
In retirement, Dad also enjoyed living a fun life. He had spent his winters in Isla Mujeres, Mexico for the last 20+ years and enjoyed spending the summers on his boat in the Georgian Shores Marina, Owen Sound for the last 10+ years. Dad brought a great deal of joy to the many people he helped throughout his travels. He was influential in furthering the health care available to the local Mexicans on the island. Dad was always willing to help someone in need and always had the coffee on. Dad will be extremely missed by his many friends in Ajax, Georgetown, Michigan, Mexico, Owen Sound, Welland and in every town in between.
Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2016 between 1-2 pm at J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Georgetown. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 2pm. Friends and family are invited to join us in the Trafalgar Room for light refreshments at the conclusion of the service. Cremation has taken place.
