Peter Arthur Smedema

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Peter Smedema, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Loving husband to Angela for 28 years, a proud and devoted father to Lauren and Jillian, Peter is survived by his sisters Janét Leferink (Bert), Elizabeth, and Julia. He was a much beloved uncle to Joe Leferink (Shauna), Rebecca Querin (Rick), Susanne Splawinski (Brad) and Tom Leferink (Helena). Brother-in-law to Michael O'Neill (Nancy) and Kimberly, nephew Spencer and niece Brittany.

Born on April 2, 1962, Peter lived his entire life in Georgetown. Quiet and unassuming, he fostered and maintained life long friendships. Peter loved music and had the best playlists. He loved nothing better than a drink in the garden surrounded by family, neighbours and friends, and of course music in the background. He was an avid Disney fan and his favourite holidays included time spent on Disney cruise ships with his girls and close family friends.

Peter was a respected and valued member of the TD Securities team. He was responsible for day-to-day support of market data connections and a major contributor to a number of large projects including 2 major data center moves. His knowledge of trading and markets was invaluable and will be missed by his TD colleagues. Peter also enjoyed a 20 year career at the TSX.

Friends will be received at the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, 11611 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at the Georgetown Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11 am. A reception to follow in the church hall.
