Paul William Colgan, aged 82, passed away peacefully at home on October 28th, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family. Born in Toronto and a longtime resident of Georgetown, Ontario, Paul was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness and love of golf left a lasting mark on everyone he met.
Affectionately known as "The Big Guy", Paul was a true gentleman who placed family at the heart of his life. A loving and devoted husband to Linda Colgan for 54 years, Paul was proud of the strong and enduring bond they built with their children, Deanna (engaged to David McCracken) and Duane (married to Christina). His grandson, Lucas, was the joy of his life.
With a big heart that welcomed everyone, Paul was as easy going as he was beloved. He had a unique gift for making people feel at ease, his presence as comforting as it was uplifting. Quick-witted and irresistibly funny, he was known for his remarkable sense of humour and his gentle, approachable nature. He brought light and laughter into any room, and his warmth was as genuine as his talent for making people feel seen and cared for.
An avid golfer with a true love for the game, Paul boasted an impressive seven hole-in-ones, which was a feat that made him the envy of his golfing friends! Every Sunday, whether out on the course or watching from his favourite armchair, Paul was dedicated to the game, embodying all the qualities that make it special: sportsmanship, camaraderie, and the great pleasure of a well-earned victory. He was not only a skilled golfer but also a teacher at heart, sharing tips for the perfect swing and life lessons on patience and perseverance.
Paul’s life was filled with goodwill, good spirit, and humility, and he provided countless memories and a few tips on the perfect golf swing. Paul left this world surrounded by the love of his family, knowing that he was the centre of their world, leaving us all with an example of a life well-lived.
On every 18th hole, as you pull the flag and sink the final putt, let the sound of the ball dropping into the cup bring a quiet smile and a thought of Paul. Tip the brim of your hat to honour him; a man who will forever be our captain of the greens.
