Oscar Pimiskern

January 30, 1956 — March 22, 2025

With profound sadness, we share the passing of Oscar Pimiskern—devoted husband, beloved father and eternal optimist. He died peacefully on Saturday, March 22nd at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife Anne and three children, Andrea, David and Christine.

Oscar was a generous soul, whose curiosity knew no bounds. His love for spirited debate made every conversation richer, and he found immense joy in guiding and mentoring the many young people in his life. With a passion for gardening, cooking, and music, he filled every space with warmth, wisdom, and laughter. His gregarious nature and infectious enthusiasm left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Born in Offenbach, Germany in 1956, Oscar travelled with his family to Canada the same year to start their life together in Leamington, Ontario. Oscar enjoyed a fulfilling 35-year career and was grateful to those who provided him with opportunities and guidance along the way. Oscar was a lifelong learner and his family and colleagues take great pride in all his contributions. Following his retirement, he spent several years enjoying the tranquility of beaches and the beauty of sunsets.

He was loved and will be missed by Anne, his wife and best friend of 38 years, his three adoring children Andrea, David and Christine, whose happiness was his greatest joy, and family and friends including his son-in-law Kevin (Andrea), Chris (Christine), his two loving grandchildren Mason and Dylan (Andrea & Kevin), honourary sons James and Andrew, and his loyal corgi companion Archie. Oscar also leaves behind his brother, Frank, nephews Pierce and Zane (Rose, Sona) and the extended Pimiskern, Gaiger, Elworthy and Trinca families. He is predeceased by his parents, Gustav and Albina Pimiskern, whose love, respect, and unwavering support shaped his life.

In his final year, Oscar embraced a profound faith, which he carried with him until the end.

We would like to thank our close family and friends who helped us immeasurably through this difficult time. We also thank all of the wonderful doctors and nurses at Princess Margaret Hospital who cared for Oscar, especially Dr. Thiago Muniz and his oncology team, nurses Matilda, Rebecca, Roma, Jocelyn and Kate. Donations may be made to Merkel cell carcinoma research. (https://merkelcell.org/join-the-fight/)
