Morley John Barnes

October 27, 1925 — August 31, 2016

Morley John Barnes, of Georgetown, passed away at the Georgetown hospital, on Wednesday August 31, 2016. He was 90 years old. Morley is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jacqueline Barnes, his sons Gordon and Paul Barnes. He was preceded in death by his eldest son Mark. Morley was born on October 27, 1925 in Coppercliff, On to Roy and Ethel Barnes. Morley left Coppercliff at 17 ½ to join the Royal Canadian Navy during World War Two. As an Engineer 1st Class on a Corvette Class submarine chaser Morley crossed the Atlantic more than 60 times escorting precious lives and cargo to the front in Europe. Morley survived enemy torpedoes and grueling conditions only to be injured in London England during a bombing blitz. Morley completed his tour of duty when the war ended in 1945. Coming home after the war he was accepted and graduated from teachers college, his first posting in St. Thomas On. Within the school system Morley rose to become a principal in Sudbury On, but eventually left teaching for new horizons in sales. It was his talent in sales that propelled him to start his own company Canadian Exhibit Studios. The love of design and success of the company kept him working until he retired at the age of 72. In his retirement years Morley concentrated on projects around the house and enjoyed his friends and family. Anyone who knew Morley would have enjoyed his warm presence his sense humour and his tremendous smile.
Morley was a dedicated member of the Alliance Church of Georgetown and the Georgetown Legion where he often shared his experiences as member of the Royal Canadian Navy. Morley passed away peacefully in hospital of natural causes. He will be missed by both friends and family for the happy spirit that he shared with everyone. Friends will be received at the J.S.
