Our hearts are broken to announce the sudden passing of Michael William Matthews on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Mike was a beloved husband and best friend of Lynn for 41 wonderful years. Loving and devoted father of Taylor (Robbie) and Mackenzie, who were truly the center of his world. He is survived by his mother Doreen, brother Mark (Kathy) and sister Cindy (Terry) and lovingly remembered by their families.
Mike is also remembered by his furry companions Emma and Ekko, the dogs he loved so very much. Ekko will miss her nighttime snuggles and Emma will miss her extra licks of ice cream Mike would always share.
Mike is also survived by his lifelong best friend of Rolf (Estelle), whose friendship since childhood took them on many adventures, great times, and a lifelong connection that is cherished by the entire family.
Mike found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and would always light up a room with his smile and contagious laugh. His favorite place to be was wherever his family was, and many of his happiest moments were spent at the cottage in Wasaga Beach. Selfless and attentive by nature, he lived fully in the moment and quietly made life better for those around him. No matter what his family or friends needed, Mike was always ready to drop everything and move mountains to bring happiness to the people he loved.
Mike always loved to stay busy and you could never find him sitting still. He was a true handyman who loved to work around the house, complete projects at the cottage, and keep his truck looking brand new. Above all else he was a perfectionist with his grass, and was known to time his morning coffee perfectly for when the sprinklers would turn on each morning.
It was so evident how much Mike loved his wife and daughters. His love for his family was the greatest gift in his life. The special bond he shared with each of his girls will always be remembered and he will forever be missed by them.
A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
