(1928 - 2013)
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Michael George at the Georgetown Hospital on August 8 2013, in his 86th year. Beloved husband of 63 years to Edna (nee Aitken). Loving father of Garry George (Jane Orendorff),Diane (Larry Thomas) and Linda (Scott Worton). Proud Poppy of Shannon and Michael George, Bill, Robbie and Danny Thomas and Eric and Kyle McClure. Mike was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on May 3, 1928. Mike moved to Georgetown in 1948. He and Edna purchased their first home on Normandy Blvd in 1951. Mike worked at Alliance/Domtar Paper Mill in Georgetown for 28 years. Upon Domtar's closing Mike went to work at The Georgetown Terminal Warehouse until his retirement at age 78! He loved to work. There were many activities and interests Mike enjoyed throughout his lifetime. He always enjoyed the Georgetown Bantam Hockey Tournament, playing/coaching hockey and baseball, umpiring in the Georgetown Industrial Baseball League during the 70's and Curling at the Acton Curling Club. Mike loved to fish, and has passed the love of the sport down to all of his grandsons. Horse racing was his passion, and would enjoy his weekends with family and friends at Mohawk and Woodbine where 2 hours would turn into 10! Mike always had a smile on his face and kind word to all he met. Many thanks from the family, to the nurses and doctors at the Georgetown Hospital for their care and support. Mike will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched over the years. May he now rest in peace. Family and friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Rd., Georgetown 905-877-3631 on Monday, August 12th, 2013 2-4pm & 7-9pm.
