Maureen Brown
4th May 1934 – 12th September 2025
Maureen grew up in Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire, England, where she lived until 2018, when she moved to Canada to live with her daughter Margaret and son-in-law Peter. She was a devoted wife and mother, later working at Pretty Polly Hosiery Mills and as a home helper and chauffeur for a local business family.
Maureen and her beloved husband Len enjoyed nearly 64 years of marriage. After his early retirement in 1989, they spent many happy years traveling the British Isles with their caravan until Maureen’s health brought their adventures to an end. After losing her beloved “Lenny” in 2016, Maureen took the courageous step of emigrating to Canada at the age of 84.
A lifelong and accomplished knitter, Maureen was always eager to try new handcrafts, creating many beautiful cross-stitch pictures and gifts for family and friends. She embraced her new Canadian life with enthusiasm, entering her work in local Fall Fairs and proudly winning many ribbons. She also gave generously of her time, especially through knitting baby blankets for Project Linus.
In 2025, Maureen moved to Edgewater Senior Living, where she made many friends and quickly became a well-liked member of the community. In her final days, her health declined suddenly, and she passed away peacefully in her sleep at Georgetown Hospital, with her daughter Margaret holding her hand and close friends by her side.
The family has requested that there be no flowers, but instead if you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers to the Mikey Organization at the following, it would be appreciated.
