Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Carolyn Shoebridge (née Lerch) on February 17, 2026, peacefully, with her family by her side at Milton District Hospital.

Mary was 78 years old and the beloved wife of Gord Shoebridge for 56 wonderful years. She was a devoted and loving mother to Bill (Catherine), Bob (Kasey), J.J. (Kinga), and Lisa (the late Peter). Cherished Nana to Cameron (Kayla), Connor (Ashley), Ayla, Jamie, and Jack, she found her greatest joy in supporting her grandchildren—whether at the hockey rink or watching them dance on stage.

Growing up on a farm in Harriston, where she helped raise cattle and pigs, Mary developed a lifelong love of animals. She especially loved horses, a passion that stayed with her throughout her life. She was the dear sister of Bill Lerch and was predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Ada Lerch, her brothers John and Earl, and her sister June Lerch.Mary will be deeply missed by her extended family, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She also leaves behind her beloved “fur babies” Cash, Debit, Fire, Risk, and Flight, who brought her endless happiness.

For over 30 years, Mary worked as a dedicated teacher’s aide at Limehouse Public School, MSB Acton, later supporting young offenders in their efforts to build better futures at a juvenile detention centre in Milton, and finishing her career at Gary Allan High School in Georgetown. She had a generous spirit and a special gift for encouraging others.

Mary loved tending to her garden, spending time with her dogs and her flyball community, and she was always ready for a little excitement—if there was a casino nearby, you could be sure she was enjoying herself (watch out, Las Vegas!).

Friends will be received at Jones Funeral Home on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of her Celebration of Life in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow in the Trafalgar Room.In memory of Mary, donations to Upper Credit Humane Society or OVC Pet Trust would be appreciated by the family.
