It is with deep sadness the MacDonald family announces the passing of our Queen, Mary MacDonald. Mary was born on February 28, 1931 in Freetown, Prince Edward Island. She passed peacefully at age 92, surrounded by family at the Bennett Healthcare Centre in Georgetown, Ontario on January 6, 2024.
Mary was the proud daughter of Agnes Bridget Reeves. She was the oldest of five sisters, Ruth (deceased), Clara (deceased), Martina (deceased), and Rita.
Mary married to Robert Macdonald and together they had six children, Roberta (Paul), John (deceased), Gerarda, Steven (Denise), Michael, and Melanie (Donny). A Granny to eight grandchildren, Tanya (Darryl), Todd, Jordyn (Brent), Brittany (Neilan), Mikey, Nickolas, Vanessa, and Robert. As well as a Great-Granny to Landon, Leighton, Ella and Paityn Mary, who is on the way.
Mary was known for her thoughtful and generous nature. She was a natural caregiver to everyone who crossed her path. Mary dedicated her life to family. Known for putting family first, Mary was a best friend for all of her children and grandchildren. She was the best listener, and a confidant for all.
Mary was an avid gardener, loved reading, knitting, puzzles, and her little red car. She loved travelling to Prince Edward Island with her family, and was in the midst of planning her next trip there. Mary loved music, and knew every Johnny Cash lyric. A country girl at heart, Mary’s love for animals, and nature had no bounds.
As a devout Catholic, we have faith that Mary has been welcomed into heaven to be reunited with many loved ones. Notably, her mother, who she missed dearly and her oldest son, John. We find comfort in knowing they are together again.
We would like to share our gratitude for all staff at the Bennett Healthcare Centre. We are so thankful for the genuine love and support they provided for our Queen during her time there.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday January 13, 2024 at 11am at the St Joseph Patron Of Canada Catholic Church (64 Church St E, Acton, ON L7J 1K7). Reception to follow at the St. Albans Community Centre from 1-4pm (537 Main St, Glen Williams, ON L7G 3T1).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Bennett Healthcare Centre or an animal shelter of your choice.
