ASHLEY, Mary Ada Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mary (Ada) Ashley passed away peacefully on November 27, 2016 at Extendicare in Halton Hills at the age of 99. Just hours before her passing, she was hugged and kissed by family. Born Mary Ada Pryce on March 21, 1917, she was raised in a family of nine children on a farm in Pennygelly Mills, Wales. She married Harry Bernard Ashley in 1940 while he was in the British forces and they lived in England. In 1949, she sailed to Canada with their three daughters, Pauline, Anne and Dorothy to join Harry in their new adventure across the sea. Through hard work, love and dedication, they made a wonderful new life, built a home in Lorne Park (now part of Mississauga) and had their fourth daughter Elizabeth.
In 1967, Harry, Ada, and Elizabeth pulled up roots and moved to California. They were joined by Anne in 1968 - Anne and Elizabeth still live in California. Harry and Ada returned to Canada in 1979 to retire in Huntsville, Ontario. They later moved to St. Catherines where Harry passed away in 1991.
Ada is survived by her 4 daughters, Pauline (Don), Anne (Peter) Dorothy, and Elizabeth (Art); by 9 grandchildren - Shawn (Theresa), Jennifer (Steve), Bryan (Jenn), Rachael (Russ), Sonya (David), Stefan (Jenn), Matthew (Sherry), Kevin (Erica) and Brandon; and by 16 great-grandchildren - Amber, Kelly, Courtney, Taylor, Jack, Brennan, Hailey, Brayden, Maxwell, Shane, Edith, Ada, Olivia, Sawyer, Kamryn and Weston. May their hearts grow to match Ada's. We wish to thank the staff at Extendicare for the love and excellent care they gave to Ada during her 5 years there; and in particular for the gentle care given in her last few weeks.
Sleep safe and peaceful Ada- you are well loved! A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at St. Alban's Anglican Church in Glen Williams, 537 Main Street on Wednesday, December 28, at 2.00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society or Canadian Cancer Society.
