Born on April 24, 1945 in the small town of Passarela Portugal, Maria Jose Da Cruz passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024 at home and in the arms of her loving and devoted husband of 56 years and primary caregiver, Jose, after a tough battle with a severe and undiagnosed neurological condition.
Maria came to Canada in 1969 and quickly settled into the role of hard-working mother, home maker and financial provider. Always quick to laugh and share her warm spirit with those around her, she enjoyed simple things such as Portuguese cuisine, lace crochet, and keeping a neat and tidy home.
As a strong and selfless woman, Maria took great pleasure and pride in the achievements of others close to her, especially her children and grand kids. She always listened with her heart and had the special ability of remembering the details around people, places and their stories. She was our historian. She was our Wikipedia.
A hard-working soul who instilled the Catholic values of love, hope, faith, and charity, Maria leaves behind her four children Paulo, Antonio (Tony), Ana Maria, and Ana Bela, and nine grand children Emma, Lucas, Marco, Sarah, Julia, Evalina, Nicholas, Mateo, and Ronan.
As our Mother and Vovó, she deeply touched the lives of those around her, creating cherished memories in our hearts that will endure forever. Heaven is a better place now that you are there Mom!
