Maurice "Mac" McLean,
Peacefully in his 81st year at Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Georgetown, Ontario on June 15, 2012 after a brief illness. Beloved husband of Betty McLean. Predeceased by his parents Elmer and Nora McLean, sisters Janice, Shirley and brother Ronald. Survived by son Douglas McLean (Lynda Phelan), daughter Sandra Thibeault (Don), three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister Mary Bell and several nieces and nephews.
Mac was born in Windsor, Ontario (September 12, 1931). A dedicated, tenacious Detroit Tigers fan, Mac faithfully supported the Tigers through many challenging years.
After 30 years with Employment and Immigration, Mac retired from the Federal Civil Service in 1982.
Mac dedicated many hours of service to his country and community as a member of the Primary Reserves of The Essex and Kent Scottish in Windsor and the Lorne Scots Regiment in Georgetown. Mac was active in the Royal Canadian Legion serving in many leadership roles including Zone and District Commander. In recognition of his service, Mac received a Meritorious Service Medal (2004) - the highest award that can be granted to life, ordinary, associate or affiliate voting members. He was also honoured with a Life Membership and the Palm Leaf (2010) for continued outstanding service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the kind, compassionate staff at Georgetown Memorial Hospital who cared for Mac in his final moments with his family at his side. Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown on Sunday from 7-9 pm. Mac will be remembered with a Legion Memorial Service on Monday, June 18 at 11 a.m. Private cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills would be appreciated.
