Lorna Louise Pollard

February 8, 1940 — August 4, 2025

We are profoundly sad to announce the passing of our mother Lorna, but we want to remember her for what she was, a person with a heart overflowing with love and a sense of humour that, like her taste in wine, could be a little on the dry side. This is the person we honour and remember.

Lorna slipped from us at the age of 85 on August 4th, 2025, at Mountainview Residence in Georgetown, with her oldest granddaughter by her side. This is fitting, because Lorna’s world revolved around family, especially her children and grandchildren. While she may have left us in person, she will always remain here in spirit to her family: Darren (Carol), Craig (Jitka), Jodi and Jill, grandchildren Reece (Ashlyn), Harley, Jesse, Cooper and Dana, son-in-law Dan Fernandes and a new great granddaughter Cali Ann.

Lorna was the last surviving child of George and Myrtle Ching, long-time residents of Brampton. She will now be rejoining her beloved siblings, Florence (John), George (Mary) and Donna (Ron), who have been chilling the wine and preparing appetizers for the reunion, undoubtedly from a Best of Bridge recipe. The three sisters are probably arguing about whose wine glass is whose.

Most of all, Lorna will be thrilled to once again join her beloved husband and dance partner, Jim, who as a long-haul truck driver was often away from home, but never for this long a stretch. This is a reunion that is long overdue.

Lorna met Jim when her best friend, Joyce Harrison, introduced Lorna to a friend of their mutual friend, Alan Cooper. It was love at first sight, but more importantly, it was also a love for the generations. Their partnership endured for the next 5 decades, until their paths temporarily parted with Jim’s passing in 2010. Once again, they are heading down the same highway.

After Jim and Lorna were married in 1959, they built their home on the west side of Brampton. Lorna and Jim’s home was the hub for a huge extended family. Doors and hearts were always open to welcome all that came to visit. Countless gatherings and reunions happened at their home. In 2004, they relocated to Bayshore Village in Orillia where they learned the fine art of retirement living. They were so loved and important to so many that it's impossible to acknowledge all the lives that she touched in her 85 plus years but they know who they are and how much they meant to her.

We will be celebrating Mom’s life on Friday, August 29th at Jones Funeral Home in Georgetown. We will receive guests from 10 am to 12 pm and the service will begin at 12 pm. It will be webcast for those unable to attend in person. Refreshments will follow in the Trafalgar Room. All are welcome. Mom wouldn’t want it any other way!

P.S. – Pour at Four (IYKYK)

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in Lorna's memory be made to Aboyne Rural Hospice in Centre Wellington.
