IRWIN, KENNETH RICHARDSON With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ken Sr. in his 72nd year on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Georgetown Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. In dealing with his illness, Ken set the bar high and we will forever be in awe. Beloved life-partner and husband of Sherrill Irwin (Snowdon) for 50 years; proud and devoted father of son Ken Jr. (Mia), and daughter Jennifer (Don Irwin-Morrow); and the much-cherished Poppa of his adored grandchildren, Alyson and Matthew. He is also survived by many beloved relatives and close friends. Ken was born in Winnipeg on May 23, 1943 to Dick and Helen (Kenny) Irwin. Growing up in East Kildonan, he enjoyed most sports but playing hockey was his favourite. He often told us his means of transportation to the rink was to skate on the icy sidewalks some six long blocks and then help shovel snow off the rink so the team could play. Ken was a hard working teenager and was proud of managing his very large paper route after school, as well as delivering groceries for Kilpatrick's year-round on his bicycle during school lunch hours.
Ken was an entrepreneur in the door and window industry, and was a renowned expert in his field. Skilled with his hands and blessed with a sharp intellect, Ken could fix or build anything and he did so often at his house or with anyone, anywhere who needed his expertise and help.
He was passionate about, and absolutely devoted to, his family and friends. He loved many things - the outdoors, curling, fishing, smoking fish, playing in the garage, golfing with the Gypsies, watching the Blue Jays, and socializing. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 16 at one of Ken's favourite places, the Alcott Arena (upstairs room - elevator available). Friends are invited to visit with the family and other friends, share stories about Ken, and enjoy snacks and beverages. Time will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with Words of Remembrance being said at approximately 2 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations to Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills would be appreciated by the family and/or engaging in an act of kindness toward someone else in his memory. Address of Alcott Arena - MMSP - upstairs of Rink A 221 Guelph Street, Georgetown Ontario.
