JUNE VIOLET DARBY was an amazing woman.
Born NOVEMBER 8, 1932 in TORONTO ON to THEODORE EARL “BAY" PINKNEY of STREETSVILLE ON and DOROTHY MIRIAM PINKNEY (nee WARDEN) of LONDON ENGLAND (both deceased). She grew up in a loving family of 10 with 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
In her youth, JUNE was a self-proclaimed tomboy playing all the games and sports available including skiing, skating and swimming as well as a love for the great outdoors. She had no problem getting her hands (and face) dirty. JUNE was also very protective of her younger siblings and not afraid to prove it.
Upon graduating high school in TORONTO ON she entered the job world where she met her future husband, FREDERICK LEROY EARNEST DARBY and married on JUNE 26, 1954. Soon after they gave birth to a son, JEFFREY NEIL DARBY in TORONTO ON on January 30, 1956.
In 1958 her family bought a new house and moved to GEORGETOWN ON where they rapidly became respected members of the local community.
JUNE enjoyed many pastimes including bowling, golf, snowmobiling and she also spent time as a Girl Guide Leader.
She worked locally driving a school bus and at a Fish and Chips shop before taking a job at Northern Electric(Nortel) and worked there as a Clerk until she retired at 65.
June and her family led a fairly idyllic life until tragedy struck when her life partner, soul mate and love of her life died suddenly at age 55. June was devastated and to cope she took up paper tole as well as gardening and threw herself into golf, eventually winning a club championship. With the help of her family and many friends she was able to get past her grief and get back to living her life to the fullest.
As the eventual matriarch of the PINKNEY family she proved to be a reliable confidant and the voice of reason and her insights and opinions helped many with their problems.
She was a loyal and loving friend to the many people she met. Alas, she outlived them all.
With the onset of COVID, JUNE was forced to forgo many of her favorite activities such as travel, socializing, dining out and going on long scenic car rides. Things went down hill from there until she eventually entered hospital and then a care home where she made it to her 92 birthday. She passed peacefully in her sleep soon after at Extendicare Halton Hills on NOVEMBER 23, 2024
JUNE outlived her 7 siblings and their partners: GARNET PINKNEY(JULIE), KEITH PINKNEY(MARIE), DON PINKNEY(MAY), AVIS DAWSON(ERNIE), BETTY HANDSCOME(JIM), JOANNE PINKNEY and TED PINKNEY
JUNE is survived by her son JEFFREY NEIL DARBY of GEORGETOWN ON and grandchildren KENDRA ELIZABETH DARBY of WINNIPEG MB and BRENNA LAINE DARBY of NANAIMO BC as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
JUNE'S family wishes to thank GEORGETOWN HOSPITAL, EXTENDICARE HALTON HILLS and JONES FUNERAL HOME for attending to her final days and her passing.
A Graveside Service and Celebration of Life is planned for JUNE 14, 2025. (Please RSVP Jeff at darbenator@gmail.com if you plan to attend.
