Judith Ann Pries

d. September 7, 2016

Judith Ann Pries (nee Sargent) - December 10, 1941 - September 7, 2016 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our adored Mom and Grandma in the early morning hours of September 7th. She left this life on her terms surrounded by her children at her bedside, in the family home.
She was the proud Mom of Kimberley, Jacqueline (Jay) and Mark (Diane); honoured Grandma to Brooklyn, Shevaun and Chase. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years the late Wayne Pries (January 2015). Predeceased by her parents Ves and Myrtle Sargent; cherished sister to Pat (Bill Patterson), Maureen (Greg Cameron), Phillip, late Jack (Joyce), late Bernice (Glen Gibbs) and late Michael (Jane). Dear sister-in-law to Merle (late Fred Lawrence), Fran (late John Sandfort), Elaine (late Carl Peterson) and Gail (late Keith Bennett). As well, she was a very proud Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Judy spent over 35 years of her life dedicated to the game of hockey, first as a devoted and proud hockey mom, then as a volunteer within many Georgetown Hockey groups. As well she was part of the original formation of the "Georgetown Hockey Moms".
She spent countless hours volunteering at hockey fundraisers, events and socials.
Where in 1988 received the Government of Canada Certificate of Merit recognizing her contributions to her Community.
She was the "First Lady" to Wayne's roles within the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA). Judy participated on many trips abroad with the OMHA and took her Co-Host responsibilities very seriously. She loved to travel and found time while she was still working to take several trips abroad with Wayne's sisters to Spain (2005), Scotland (2006), as well as West Virginia (Fall 2015). Judy was a staunch believer in family and dedicated her life to raising her children and to building a home. However, in the early 80's she decided to re-enter the workforce and found great value in cleaning homes and building relationships with her employers and their children. And in 1988 she found her true passion in home decoration, where she joined Colour Your World and spent the next 24 years doing what she loved, working and consulting with clients in colour selection. In 2012, at the age of 70 she retired from Dulux Paints. This was a big decision for Judy, as she afraid of slowing down and always wanted to be busy. She was an energizer bunny and had more energy than some 40 year olds. Upon retirement she had more time focus on her other passions such as her children, grandchildren and the cottage. Judy is known not only for her energy, but also her hard working nature and her willingness to always lend a helping hand. She was a people person and well-known for the gift of conversation; she had a healthy sense of humour, and an infectious and gregarious laughter.
The world will not be the same without her; she will be sadly and desperately missed. " The loss of a mother can never be replaced, but the love of a mother can never be lost" - Kelly Flannery Judy will be interned at Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday, September 17th. This date is fitting as it represents her rejoining Wayne on the day of their 56th Wedding Anniversary.
The family will receive friends and family at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, (905) 877-3631 on Monday, September 12th, from 2- 4pm and 7-9pm. A celebration of Judy's life will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, September 13th, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Judy loved her gardens and flowers, albeit if you prefer, donations can be made to the Canadian Lung Association or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
