Jose Emanuel Vieira

Mr. Jose Emanuel Martins Vieira, of Georgetown Ontario, passed away in hospital on January 6th, 2022 at the age of 79.
Jose is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Maria Elvira Cardoso Bertao Vieira, and his two cherished daughters Mafalda Do Natal Bertao Vieira and Manuela Fatima Vieira Silva.
His life and spirit will forever be cherished in the lives of his only two grand-daughters Bianca Vieira Silva and Rheanna Bertao Silva.
Jose was born February 27th, 1942 in the village of Santa Barbara, Angra do Heroismo, Terceira, Azores Portual to parents Joao Cardoso Vieira and Dolores da Assuncao Martins.  Jose married his beloved wife Maria in 1967.  In Portugal, Jose served in the Portuguese Army - including a war-time tour of duty overseas in Angola.  Outside of his military life, Jose worked for the Terceira Forestry Department where he contributed to the development and building of Terceira tourist attractions such as the Algar do Carvao and the Serra da Santa Barbara.
Like many others in his family and the Portuguese community, Jose immigrated to Canada in December 1973 to start a new life with his family.  He settled first in Toronto, Ontario, moving later in life to Georgetown.  He, like many other immigrants, worked multiple jobs to support and raise his family.  He remained in Georgetown until his final days.
Relatives and friends are welcomed at Jones Funeral Home - 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown - on Friday January 14th from 6 to 8 pm for a visitation. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday January 15, 2022 at 10:30 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church.  Due to COVID-19, capacity restrictions are in place. Please contact Jones Funeral Home (905-877-3631)  ahead to reserve a time for visitation  Attendees must be fully vaccinated.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Cancer Assistance Services Halton Hills and or a Trust fund contribution for Bianca and Rheanna are welcome and appreciated.
