Joan Frances NEWCOMBE

Dundas, Ontario - Our lovely wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Joan Frances Newcombe, passed away peacefully in her bed at Amica in Dundas, Ontario, on December 16, 2025.

Joan was born on September 20, 1940, and gifted with a loving, close-knit family: father, Maurice Dalton (dec.); mother, Grace (née Moylan dec.); sisters, Marie Eckert (Jerry, dec.), Agnes (dec.), Noreen Malloy (Mike), Ann Robinet (Raymond), Dorothy Blair (Alexander, dec.); and brother, John Dalton (Estelle).

She grew up on the family farm in St. Columban, Ontario, and attended Brescia College at Western University, earning her degree in English Literature.

Joan was lucky in love, having found a young man who was not only handsome, but also her intellectual equal, quite a feat. Their teenage romance became a lifetime of love and commitment when Joan married James (Jim) William Newcombe (eloping) on March 16, 1963, beginning 62 years of marriage.

Joan and Jim settled in Georgetown, Ontario, where they focused on raising their family. Joan was a founding member of the University Women's Club of Georgetown, and for decades she led hikers along the Bruce Trail, and organized book clubs. Through gatherings, celebrations, and weddings, she built many close and enduring friendships. She and Jim travelled the world. They had special fondness for their time spent in Ohope, New Zealand, and the many adventures with friends.

Family was the centre of Joan's life. She will be greatly missed by Dalton (Zeu Ming Wong), Kimberley (Peter Margetts), and Jonathon (Stephanie Ellis). She and Jim were blessed with nine grandchildren: Isabel, Leslie, Emily, Alexander, Maxwell, Laura, Christiane, James, and Hayden.

Joan will be remembered for her love of family, her ability to hold people close, her laughter, smiles, keen intelligence, exemplary culinary skills, and love of a well-organized celebration.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Amica for their kindness and compassion.

A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the Jones Funeral Home - Trafalgar Room, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, between 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Please stop in to help honour Joan.
