Isky, Joan Yvonne – Passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Joan, in her 88th year, was the loving mother of James (Carmen) and the beloved Grams of Jaime, Danielle (Devon), and Alexandra (Noel). She was also the proud great-grandmother of Christopher and Jonathan, and the dear sister of Jean.

Anyone who knew Joan could attest to her passion for sewing—a craft she poured her heart into. She spent countless hours hand-stitching beautiful clothes and home textiles, lovingly creating one-of-a-kind pieces for her granddaughters, friends, and herself. Her talent wasn’t just in the thread and fabric, though. Joan was a force in every sense, lighting up every room with her contagious laughter and the kind of genuine, radiant smile that left a lasting impression.

But her warmth wasn’t limited to her social circles. Joan was also a powerhouse in the business world, having spent years as an international buyer. She didn’t just break barriers—she shattered them, leading by example and showing that women could conquer the industry with grace, wit, and a style uniquely their own. Amid her trailblazing career, Joan was the embodiment of strength and perseverance, balancing the demands of her professional life while raising her son, James, as a single mother—proving that she could do it all, and do it beautifully.

Joan will forever be remembered by her family as a beacon of joy—fun-loving, adventurous, and sharp as a tack with her crossword puzzles. She embodied grace in everything she did, whether through her quick wit or her ever-present warmth. Her kindness touched everyone lucky enough to know her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Though she’s no longer here, Joan’s spirit will live on, cherished by her loved ones and held close in their hearts, forever a symbol of love and light.

A celebration of Joan's life will be held in the Trafalgar Room at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown (905-877-3631), on Saturday, October 12th, from 10 am to 12 pm.
