IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice
Smith
March 5, 2026
Janice “Jan” Elinor Smith (nee Armstrong) passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026 at the Bennett Centre LTC at the age of 90 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, (George) Connell Smith. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory: her children Connell Smith (Eve), Heather Carnduff, Jeff Smith (Karen); her grandchildren CJ Smith, Ella Smith, Mitch Carnduff, Chris Carnduff, Jacob Smith and Nick Smith.
Janice was born and raised in Montreal Quebec to parents, Owen and Jean Armstrong. She was predeceased by her sister, Doreen Bell and her brother, Bruce Armstrong.
Janice and Connell began their life in Montreal before settling in Georgetown in 1962. She studied fashion design in Montreal before finding her true calling in the intricate beauty of gold and silver jewelry design. She had a successful home studio and worked for Berkhardt Jewelers in Toronto. Later, she had a studio at the Glen Williams Mill for many years until her retirement.
She had a wonderful sense of humour and enjoyed skiing and sailing and had a special passion for travelling. One of the many things that her family and friends enjoyed was her talent for cooking and entertaining. Her greatest passion, however, was her family. Janice was defined by her kindness and unwavering dedication to her children and grandchildren.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and personal support workers who cared for Janice at Mountainview Terrace and the Bennett Long Term Care Facility for the past two years.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to The Bennett Long Term Care Centre or the Georgetown Hospital Foundation.
When making a donation to any of the charities below, please ensure you change the Support Pledge 💜 amount to (Other, $0.00) prior to submitting payment.
