Janet Irene Wickens

Wickens, Janet (Jan) Irene - it is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother on Saturday, August 13, 2022, in her 88th year at Georgetown Amica Senior Lifestyles. She was the ever-loving mother of Karen (Don), Jackie (Steve), and Phil (Claire), the proud grandmother of Jaime, Brendan, Haley, Jaden and Calais, and great grandmother of Boyd, Remy, and Ace. It would be remiss to not include Jackie’s family dog Tucker, with whom she shared a special bond. Jan was predeceased by her husband John Louis Wickens after 61 years of marriage, and her sister, Elizabeth Wickens. Growing up, Jan was always called a “Tomboy” who loved to climb trees, was the captain of the netball team in school, and who loved to play field hockey. It was through the Slough Field Hockey Club that she met her husband John. Jan worked as a teller at the Lloyd’s bank in Ipswich and Ascot, England. She immigrated to Canada from England in 1969 with John and their three children. Jan worked as a teller with the CIBC at the Marketplace in Georgetown for many years before moving to Parry Sound with John to build a home and start their retirement years. She loved nature and was always the happiest gardening, clearing brush or feeding the birds. She was a devoted Christian who was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church in Georgetown and Trinity Anglican Church in Parry Sound. She enjoyed singing in their choirs and was actively involved in their operations.

Words cannot express our sincere thanks to the staff at Amica for their wonderful service and loving care of our mother. It was really incredible!!

Friends will be received at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 2-3 pm with a memorial service at 3:00 pm, also at Jones Funeral Home. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to St. George’s Anglican Church (stgeorgesgeorgetown.com/donate), Operation Smile Canada or the Ontario SPCA would be appreciated.
