James Poirier

James Francis Poirier passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at the age of 59 years. Brother of Don and Janet (Chris). Dear uncle of Holly (Adam), Alandra (Jason), Madison, Mikaela and Morgan. James is predeceased by his loving parents, Leo and Julia and survived by his daughter Emily. He will be missed by his family and friends.

While we grieve the loss of our dear brother we also reflect on the life he lived. For over 30 years, he bravely battled schizophrenia, a serious and often misunderstood mental illness. James was a smart amazing person with a very promising future before his illness took it away from him. Through every difficulty his big infectious personality never left him, even in the hardest moments, his exuberance and spirit shone through.

We are deeply grateful to all who treated him with kindness, compassion, patience, and offered support to him along the way. Our family is especially thankful for the support systems that exist to help individuals and families when living with illness becomes more than one person or family can bear alone.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Summit Act Team for their continued support over the years and the Millhouse Resthome in Acton for providing James with a loving and caring home.
