Jacqueline Gougeon (née Houde)

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jacqueline Gougeon (née Houde) on December 29, 2025 at her home in Georgetown in her 92nd year.

Jacqueline’s life was defined by her devotion to family and friends, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: son Pierre (Carole Cullen) and daughter Michèle (Peter Scholz), her younger brother Jean, grandchildren Carole, Veronica (Kyle), and Geoffrey, great grand-children Erich, Alex and Lucas, and many nieces and nephews. She was sadly predeceased by both of her dear husbands, Robert Gougeon and Jean-Pierre Hébert.

Jacqueline grew up in Montreal, and was trained as a nurse at CHU Sainte Justine Hospital. She eventually pursued her career in the industrial side of nursing working for the newspaper Montreal Star and subsequently becoming director of nursing at Upjohn and then national director of nursing for the Veterans Affairs in Ottawa before her retirement. Through all this, she raised a family and supported her husband Robert as he was building a successful business in Montreal.

Jacqueline had multiple interests. Coming from a family of musicians, she excelled at playing the piano and singing. She also loved to travel across the world where her curiosity and interest in foreign culture and history encouraged her to visit every continent except the Arctic. She also loved to purchase and sell real estate, to the point that she personally moved an impressive 21 times in Montreal, the Laurentians where she owned lovely cottages, and in Florida. Her last move was in early 2023, when at 88 she decided to leave Montreal and move to Georgetown to be closer to her family and live a new experience. Not surprisingly, she adapted well.

Jacqueline loved life, people and pets. She was a great listener and was genuinely interested in what people had to share and always provided sound advice when ask for it. She will be greatly missed by many.

To celebrate Jacqueline’s life, a funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Parish, 14400 Argyll Road, Georgetown on January 17, 2026 at 10:30 am. Reception for family and friends will follow at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Waterloo Eye Institute

Jacqueline in her later years was slowly losing her eyesight and was helped greatly by this institute.
