JOHNSTON, IVAN (BUSTER) NEWTON
December 23, 1944 - March 18, 2017
It is with great sadness and sincere grief that the family of Ivan (Buster) Johnston announces his passing at the age of 72 after being diagnosed with cancer in December 2015 just after his 70th birthday. Born on December 23, 1944 in Kingston, Jamaica, he was the son of the late James Johnston and the late Lola Johnston. His brother Lloyd Johnston and sister Delaine Ayoub, predeceased him. He will be cherished and forever remembered by his wife, Judy Johnston, his sons Martin Johnston (Danika Zuber) and Darryl Johnston (Janissa), daughter Natalie Shantz (Dave), six grandchildren (Colton Shantz, Wyatt Shantz, Isaiah Johnston, Avery Johnston, Rowynne Johnston, Naiya Johnston), brothers Rennie Johnston, Neville Johnston (Geri), Joe Johnston (Anne-Marie) and Billy Johnston (Marlene), brother-in-law Derek Goldson (Bernice), and sister-in-law Rosie Johnston. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins and close friends.
With gratitude, the family would like to particularly thank our family doctor, Dr. Mike Bickhram of Milton, and Dr. Mark Rother, Oncologist at Credit Valley Hospital for the wonderful care he received during the last two years of his remarkable life. We would also like to thank Amanda Francis, the RN who cared for him in-home during the last two weeks of his journey. Lastly, we would like to thank our Priest, Father Aaron Orear who made numerous visits to Ivan at home for prayer, communion, anointment and fellowship over the past two years.
Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, north of Maple Ave., Georgetown on Friday, March 24, from 6:00 -9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 27 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Alban the Martyr Anglican Church, 537 Main Street, Glen Williams. Interment to follow at Brampton Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at 4:00 p.m., Eagle Ridge Golf Course, 11742 10 Line, Georgetown, Ontario L7G 4S7.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Ivan's name to St. Alban the Martyr Anglican Church, 537 Main Street, Glen Williams, Ontario L7G 3T1 would be appreciated.
