Hayes, Ian Marshall -

After a very short battle with lung cancer, and in his 71st year, Ian knocked on heaven’s door early in the morning of February 12, 2024 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. With family by his side, and music in his ear, Ian fought fiercely and courageously to hold on to the life and people he loved. Beloved husband and soulmate of Anne Marie for 33 years. Loving father of Laura (Nick) Souhleris. Treasured Gizzy to Evie and Zoe. Dear brother of Suzie Hayes, Nina Hayes, Pete (Terri) Hayes and the late Syd (Susan) Hayes and Michelle Hayes. Dear brother-in-law of Susan Townsend (John Roberts) and the late Paul Townsend. Predeceased by his parents, Jean Hayes (Aitken) and jazz pianist, John “Jack” Hayes.

Forever remembered by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and many friends.  Ian was a true free spirit who had a unique ability to see and appreciate the true spirit of others. He lived and loved with passion and loyalty. His heartbeat was music and anyone who knew him could drop by anytime to listen, learn and connect. Ian’s cocktails were legendary and his love of wine took him on many memorable adventures exploring wineries of the old world. “Gizzy’s Garden” was a place of peaceful tranquility that nourished his soul. His lifelong love of animals brought out the gentle side of this powerful man and defined the way he would learn to be a father and grandfather. Lovingly teased by Evie and Zoe, “Giz-Gooz” made trips to Terra Cotta fun, whether it was in the garden, fishing by the river, riding the tractor or setting up the best forts for hiding, reading or cuddling.

Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown (905) 877-3631 on February 20th, 2024 from 2 - 4pm and 6 - 8pm. A Celebration of Ian’s life will be held in the chapel on Wednesday February 21st at 11:00am.  Family and friends are invited to join a reception to follow at The Royal Ambassador Greenhouse, 15430 Innis Lake Road, Caledon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Caledon Community Services, Georgetown Hospital or Pet Trust, University of Guelph would be appreciated.
