Hugh Queenan
1942 – 2025
The family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Hugh Queenan, 83 years old, who died at home in Georgetown, Ontario, in the early hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025, following a brief battle with prostate cancer.
Hugh is survived by his beloved wife Anne, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Jane and Brian, a cherished grandfather to Sarah-Jane, Amanda (Andre), Aerin, Carter, and Sean, and a proud great-grandfather to Gabriel and Sebastian. He will also be dearly missed by his sister Rena (Joe), and fondly remembered by his niece, nephews, and many close friends. Hugh was predeceased by his brother John (2017), and his parents Catherine (1964) and Hugh (1963).
Born in Bridge of Allan, Scotland, Hugh was a proud lifelong supporter of Celtic Football Club. A humble and generous man, Hugh was known for his incredibly dry sense of humour, quiet wisdom, and deep dedication to his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of his world, and he delighted in every moment spent with them.
Hugh had a lifelong love of art and was deeply charitable, often supporting causes close to his heart. He had a rare gift for conversation and a sincere interest in life experiences and stories of others, making everyone who spoke with him feel seen and valued. His warmth and genuine curiosity made every conversation with Hugh a joy to have.
Hugh also cherished his travels, especially to what he lovingly referred to as his “second home” in Comox on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Whether at home or away, Hugh brought kindness, humor, and quiet strength to every room he entered.
A Celebration of Hugh’s Life will be held at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Operation Smile or to a charity of your choice.
At the end of every evening, Hugh had his own special sendoff:
“Bye Bye… God Bless.”
