Our beloved Hermann/Opie passed away peacefully at the Georgetown Hospital, just after his 89th Birthday, following some health complications while in hospital. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary (nee McGhee) and his second wife Anneliese Penz.
.
He was born in Waldstetten, Germany to Ludwig and Martha (nee Helmle) Gruber and was a brother to Erich, Horst, and Hannelore. He came to Canada at the age of 18 (1954) to start a new life. He attended school and obtained his certification in HVAC and after learning the trade, he opened and operated a successful heating and refrigeration company until his retirement. He was a loving father to Christina and Brian; a loving grandfather to Kristyn (Richards), Jenelle and Jason (Huras); and a loving great-grandfather to Jack and Liam (Pearce). He shared many good times with his nieces and nephews in Canada (Tom, Peter, Raymond, Harvey, Tanya, Michael, Mark and Tracy) and their families. Hermann/Opie was an adventurous person who loved camping, the trailer, golf, travelling and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was always the life of the party and made everyone feel welcome. Later in life, he enjoyed a great friendship with Zenko and other residents at Heidelberg Village in St. Catharines.
Even though his health was declining, he was determined to have special moments with his family. His legacy lives on in his family, and we will fondly hold him in our memories forever.
A celebration of life will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 2:00 pm. A visitation and interment for the immediate family will take place on Monday, September 29, 2025.
