Hans ‘Guenther’ Hoewing  February 25, 1935 – January 13, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Hans ‘Guenther’ Hoewing, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, on January 13, 2025.

Born in Germany on February 25, 1935, Guenther immigrated to Canada at the age of 18. It was here in Toronto, at the German Club, that he met the love of his life, Gisela. The couple shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, building a life together filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

Guenther worked for 40 years at Canada Packers – Maple Leaf, where his dedication and hard work were respected by all. Outside of work, he was passionate about sports, introducing his family to skiing and soccer. A talented soccer player himself, he was a founding member of the Pineview Soccer Club and spent many years coaching and refereeing, leaving a lasting impact on his community.

He treasured spending time with his grandchildren, sharing stories of his life and teaching them valuable lessons about strength, perseverance, and never giving up.

Guenther will be deeply missed by his loving wife Gisela; his son Marcus (Amanda) and grandchildren Emma, Cameron, and Addison; his daughter Monique (Darren); and all those whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Guenther’s memory to Georgetown Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A mass to celebrate Guenther's life will be announced in the spring.
