Age: 66 (1948-2015)
On January 29, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer, Grgo passed away peacefully in Georgetown with his loving wife of 41 years, Ružica (née Marušić), by his side. He is survived by his brothers Ivan (and Mara) of Duisberg, Krunoslav of Sudbury, and Zvonimir of Široki Brijeg, his sisters Marija (and Ivan Penavić) and Mirjana (and Dragan Šakota) of Široki Brijeg, and many nieces and nephews in Canada, Germany and Herzegovina. Grgo is predeceased by his parents Jure and Iva (née Grbešić). Fleeing from communism in 1966, Grgo escaped to Austria and then headed to Canada in 1967, with stops in Noranda and Toronto, and then setting his roots in Sudbury, where he would spend most of his life. Married in 1973 to the love of his life, Grgo worked for Inco Limited for 30 years. He was a man of great generosity, who was always looking and willing to help others (especially those in need). He was a man who enjoyed time with family and friends - whether hunting, playing bocce or making and drinking wine. He loved adventure and travel, had no fear, and enjoyed living life to its fullest, sometimes close to the edge. He was always prepared for a good "ganga" - regardless of the location or the occasion. He was a true patriot and never shied away from his love for Croatia and appreciation for Canada. He will be greatly missed by his cousins and other family and many friends, and we are saddened by this loss. Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, north of Maple Ave., Georgetown, Ontario (905) 877-3631 on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with Holy Rosary to begin at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 9118 Winston Churchill Boulevard, Norval, Ontario on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Grgo will be buried in his native village of Dobrkovići (Široki Brijeg). Memorial donations in memory of Grgo may be made to the Queen of Peace Croatian Franciscan Centre in Norval, Ontario or to Caritas.
