Gillian Baker, née Dupré, died peacefully at her home in Erin, Ontario on September 14, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Frank Baker, dear aunt of Matthew (Lyrinda) Dupré, Louisa (Pedro) Dupré and Luke Dupré, step mother to Frank (Ruth) Baker Jr. and Cathy Baker. She will be missed by her grandchildren Katie, Julian, Christopher, Sam, Charlie, and Rohan and her great nieces and nephew Samantha (Mikhail), Cecilia, Sebastian, and Miebet and her cousin Malcolm (Isabelle) McHattie.
Gillie was born in London, England and grew up there during WWII and the post war years with her parents, Bill and Dorothy Dupré, and her brother, the late Dr. John Dupré. She came to Canada with her family as a young woman and they settled first in Montreal, where she began her career in business.
In 1984 she married Frank Baker in Montreal and together they were happy and successful, moving then to Erin, Ontario. Gillie was a wonderful hostess for many social events for family, friends, and business associates in Quebec, Ontario, and North Carolina. She had many interests and talents, including equestrian sports, golf, dance, music, travel, gardening, and literature. Family and friends will always remember the easy-going life at the property at Erin and the many joyful celebrations shared together. Gillie and Frank enjoyed travel for business and pleasure, and they were enthusiastic members of the equestrian community, sharing a great love for horses, donkeys, and dogs.
The family is grateful to Steve and Joanne and the other caregivers who supported her as her health declined. Gillie had a full and happy life and touched many people who will remember her with fondness and love.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. If wished, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Donkey Sanctuary or Ajmera Transplant Centre at UHN’s Toronto General Hospital.
