It is with deep sadness but with our memories of a long life, well lived , the Camman Family announce the peaceful passing of Gerda Camman in Waterloo on April 15, 2026. She had just recently celebrated her 96th Birthday. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Gerda loved her family dearly, giving her time, energy and love to them. She took great pleasure in her 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Gerda was born March 20, 1930 in Oudorp, The Netherlands at her Maternal grandfather's farm, to Jacob and Agje Jongejan. Gerda grew up in another small village , Middelharnis and lived through the German Occupation of WW 11. In her teens she became pen pals with a young boy Scout by the name of Marius Camman. They eventually met , fell in love and married in Rotterdam, post war. A few years later, Gerda and Marius, now with 2 toddlers , Coby and Jack, set off by ship, to Canada in the early 1950s. They eventually settled in Georgetown and became a family with 7 children. Gerda was not just a busy mother. She worked at the GDH switchboard and then for various physicians in their practices as a medical office assistant. Gerda learned to drive a car in her fifties. She was always reading, learning new things and proficiently knitted, crocheted and did crafts.
After she was widowed in 2000 she was determined to live alone, purchased her own condo and lived there until 2025 with her 2 favorite cats. With aging and ailing health affecting her, Gerda moved into LTC at University Gates, in Waterloo in October 2025.
Gerda was provided with a caring ,loving, supportive environment by every staff member. She was particularly fond of the "gourmet foods" she got to eat along with unlimited cookies, chocolates and cheese!
Gerda was predeceased by her husband, Marius , in 2000 and her beloved daughter, Marcia Camman Lewis, in 2023.
Gerda is survived by her daughters Coby Logan (Hugh d. 2025) , Agnes Caplan, Cindy Hodgins (Peter),and her sons Jack Camman (Susan), Andrew Camman , Richard Camman (Beverley) and greatly supportive son in law, Max Lewis.
Gerda leaves behind a legacy of 14 grandchildren and 9 great grand children who gave her great pleasure and joy.
