George passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at the Georgetown Hospital, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of the late Helen Francis Strutt and Madeline Melanson Sanderson. Loving father of Roslyn Levitt, Noreen Atkinson and the late Andy Atkinson, and step-father of Gordon (Laura Lee) Sanderson, Laura (David Majeury) Sanderson, Sandy (Clifford) Shafer, Dawn Marie (Noel) Metcalf, and the late Lynda (Barrett) Sanderson. George’s legacy lives on in his grandchildren Victoria Levitt, Alexander Levitt, Steven Atkinson and Jordan MacKinnon

A local farmer in Stewarttown for 73 years, George, his father and brother were tillers of the soil. George worked the land until he was 96 and handed the work off to his grandson Jordan. George remarried after the death of Helen; George and Madge enjoyed attending jamborees, dances and many social events. The sun has set behind the tree line of the back field, marking the end to a life span of nearly 100 years. We will miss his laugh, his stories, and his wisdom. There will be “no replacing this ole fella.” They just don’t build them like that anymore. “There Now”

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown at 2:00 p.m., with visiting beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to CASHH are greatly appreciated.
