Blaseg, Gary June 13, 1951 - May 14, 2014 - Passed away at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital on Wednesday May 14, 2014 after a long battle with juvenile diabetes and kidney failure. Cherished husband of Claire (Chartier), father of Brent (Carissa) and Cara Richards (Charles). Grampa to Calya and Brady and Poppa to Adam and Eric. Son of Leander Blaseg (predeceased 1960) and Dolores Rochon (Adrien - predeceased 1993). Brother of Sandra (Bob) Neville, Mike Rochon (Lynn) and Carmen Jack (friend Don). Gary will also be missed by brothers-in-law Bob (Norma predeceased), Don (Shirley), Rene (Judy) and Fred, sisters-in-law Diane Rivers (Jim predeceased) and Helen Kerr. Gary was an avid sports fan, he loved his Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. In his younger days he had played various sports but 'The Goose' particularly loved playing fastball for St. Andrews in the church league. A Roman Catholic, Gary had been active in the youth group at St. Andrews parish years ago and more recently was a 4th degree Knight with Knights of Columbus Council 6074 in Sudbury. He had held various positions including Grand Knight. Gary was a fun loving, positive person who always had a nice word or a joke for everyone, He loved the outdoors, especially fishing with his uncle and camping with friends. He embraced life and lived it to the fullest. He was a generous person, always quick to help others even while facing his own challenges. In death, the light of his life will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank the staff and patients in the Dialysis Unit and the palliative care team on the 4th floor at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital for the care and love they gave Gary in his last days. Donations may be directed to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Kidney Foundation of Canada. Friends will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home, Georgetown 905-877-3631 on Friday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral and committal service will be held in the chapel on Saturday May 17, at 10:00 am.
