Francis Stephen "Steve" Barr

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Francis Stephen (Steve) Barr, on September 10, 2025, at the age of 77. Steve was born on January 4, 1948, in Twickenham, UK, and in May of this year, he and his beloved wife Judy (née Kirkham) joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they built a life full of love, family, and laughter. Steve was the proud father of Denyse (Craig) and Greg (Heather), and is also survived by his son Bobby. He was the cherished grandfather of Victoria, Jessica, and Kyle.

Steve truly lived to live — to laugh, to love, and to be the life of the party. He spent his life working with what he loved most: land and vehicles. From being a farmer, to a mechanic, to a truck driver, and everything in between, there wasn’t much he couldn’t do. He loved his vegetable garden, his grandchildren, watching NASCAR, and anything that had to do with food. Always quick with a joke, Steve often said he was on a “seafood diet” — if he saw food, he ate it!

Known for being the first to lend a hand to anyone in need (and sometimes even those who weren’t), he lived with an open heart and endless energy. Unless he was stretched out in the sun or watching Wild Wonderful Off-Grid or Perkins Builder Brothers on YouTube, Steve was always on the go.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Hillcrest United Church on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. There will be a small visitation at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Room, followed by a service in the Sanctuary at 11:00 a.m., and then a light lunch downstairs. For those of you who are unable to attend in person, please feel free to join us via ZOOM

As an extreme extrovert, Steve would want to be celebrated in colour. Please wear whatever feels right to honour him — track pants and jeans are also completely acceptable, as that’s what he was most often seen wearing! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society of Canada, the Canadian Lung Association, or the Townsend Smith Foundation. Steve will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family, his friends, and all whose lives he touched.
